VIDEO: Morena Senators presented an award to Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez, Mayo Zambada's lawyer, for his contribution to the "transformation"

Following the controversy over Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez , lawyer of Ismael Zambada García, alias El Mayo Zambada , it is worth remembering that three Morena senators and a deputy gave the litigator an award for his contribution to “human rights” ; the act was recorded on video .

On February 21, a letter was revealed in which El Mayo Zambada demanded to be repatriated to Mexico and avoid the death penalty ; this in the middle of his trial in the United States on 17 charges related to drug trafficking and homicide, after being arrested in Mexico in July 2024 by the United States Government.

However, the defense letter that circulated in the media included the name of one of Mayo Zambada's legal advisors, who responds to the name of Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez , indicated with a photo of having ties to Morena and President Claudia Sheinbaum .

Regarding the controversy over Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez , Mayo Zambada's lawyer , a video from the Senate recorded the moment in which three Morena senators gave the litigator an award .

The ceremony in question took place on November 30, 2023 in the Senate of the Republic, within the framework of the presentation of the 2023 Pro Humanitas National Award , where the following were present:

• Ana Lilia Rivera Rivera , then president of the Senate Board of Directors
• Senator Jesus Lucia Trasviña Waldenrath
• The then senator Rocío Adriana Abreu Artiñano
• Sergio Mayer , Morena deputy
• Judge Mónica Güicho , president of the Human Rights and Equality Commission of the Federal Court of Conciliation and Arbitration

In this context, these were the words of Mayo Zambada's current lawyer :

“I have no words to express my gratitude and to urge each and every Mexican to contribute a grain of sand that we can all do in favor of human rights, especially for the most disadvantaged people, of which there are many in this country, and who do not have the resources to defend themselves from many injustices. Women and children are the ones who suffer the most injustices, so, well, I think that there are a lot of us Mexicans and with a grain of sand we can add a lot.”

The issue of Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez , Mayo Zambada's lawyer , escalated to the morning conference today, February 24, led by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum , who refused to meet the litigator who received an award from Morena in 2023.

In this regard, Sheinbaum Pardo distanced herself from a photo circulating on social media in which she appears with the lawyer; she explained that said photo was taken within the framework of her campaign for the Mexico 2024 elections :

“I don’t know the person, but it is important to clarify, because a photograph appears there, where I don’t even know what place it is, but in the campaign, in the tours that one makes around the country, well, one takes a photograph with many people.”

However, he said that there is no relationship of complicity with the person mentioned:

“The important thing here is to say, to emphasize, to guarantee the people of Mexico, that we do not establish relations of complicity or collusion with anyone, with anyone, and that if there is an investigation file, an investigation by the prosecutor's office, that it investigates and takes to the ultimate consequences with whoever it may be, because we have to defend a national project, honest, honorable, that is based on not lying, not stealing and not betraying the people.”

He also stated that a large percentage of the messages that replicated the photo between the two characters were sent through bot accounts :

“A study we conducted indicates that 70 percent of the stories were bots this weekend. Coincidentally, they are the same bots (that handled the topics) about the narco-president and the narco-candidate, that were used at the time. This is a virtual reality, and it has nothing to do with what people think.”
